London’s Air Ambulance Charity treated 1,977 seriously injured patients in 2022
Westminster, Lambeth and Tower Hamlets were among the busiest boroughs covered by the charity last year
In its mission report, London’s Air Ambulance Charity (LAAC) revealed that it treated 1,977 critically-injured patients in 2022. Since the inception of its service in 1989, this is the largest annual number of patients they have treated.
The busiest London boroughs in 2022 were Westminster, Lambeth and Tower Hamlets, with 113, 111 and 103 patients, respectively.
Thirty-four per cent of those patients needed pre-hospital care on-scene for penetrating trauma (including gunshot wounds, stabbings and accidental causes), 25 per cent due to road traffic collisions and 22 per cent due to falls from height.
Chief Pilot at LAAC, Captain Neil Jeffers stated: “Last year we attended more missions than ever before and when we’re up against time, our helicopter fleet and rapid response cars enable us to get to our patients quickly, wherever they are in London.”
Currently, LAAC is running its largest fundraising campaign ‘Up Against Time’ in goals to raise £15 million for a new fleet by autumn 2024.
