The report highlights recent developments such as technological improvements in sling load systems, advances in avionics, and advanced suspension systems that provide increased safety levels and reduced maintenance costs. Of particular note was the recent deal between Erickson Inc and Sikorsky to develop Matrix Technology for Semi-autonomous flight of the S-64 Air Crane. The technology will provide advanced flight control and navigation systems for the helicopter, enhancing cockpit awareness and flight crew safety during nighttime firefighting operations.
The report states: “The growth of the market is attributed to the increase bush fire incidences, increased use for heavy lifting operations, special purpose missions, and others. Helicopter OEMs such as Bell, Airbus, Kaman, Lockheed Martin [and Erickson] are developing applications such as aerial firefighting, water dropping and other applications. In 2019, there was a massive bushfire in Australia. Due to the rise in such incidences, the demand for firefighting helicopters continuously increases, which drives the growth of the market.”
