VIDEO: US Coast Guard rescues two firefighters
Crew members from Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay rescue two injured firefighters in Northern California wildfire in the early morning of 6 September
The U.S. Forest Service requested Coast Guard assistance in rescuing the firefighters who reportedly sustained serious injuries from falling rocks in the 'Middle Fire' burning in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area. The injured were flown to the Weaverville airport and transferred to emergency medical services. Video shows hoist operations, audio is of flight mechanic and pilots coordinating aircraft movements; discussing hazards such as nearby trees, fire and smoke: and tracking progress of the rescue swimmer deployed to the ground to hoist the injured.
