In 2011, London-based HEMS charity London’s Air Ambulance (LAA) saved the life of Emma McEachan, a young woman who had been involved in a motorcycle accident.
Having anaesthetised Emma, they performed a thoracotomy, allowing her lungs to re-inflate, and splinted her badly broken leg and pelvis before taking her to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, via helicopter. The charity has now released a video in which Emma talks about her experience, and thanks LAA for saving her life.
