The Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference (CCTMC) is designed to address topics pertinent to the out-of-hospital and emergency care of critically-ill and injured patients. Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and allied healthcare professionals will convene at the Hilton Denver City Center in downtown Denver, Colorado, 17–19 April 2023, for lectures on the essentials of care required for the complex patient requiring critical care on air and ground transport. Attendees at this year’s conference will also have an opportunity to participate in other educational opportunities and social events.

Conference highlights

Transport Medicine Competition (TMC@CCTMC) – CCTMC critical care simulation competition returns this year, where eight, two-person critical care transport teams will compete in multiple scenarios in various settings. The competition includes a series of matches in front of a live audience using high-fidelity simulation manikins and virtual reality to test critical care transport knowledge, critical thinking and communication skills.

Annual Scientific Forum – Posters will be presented and reviewed, and an Outstanding Research Award will be presented during the conference with the goal to nurture and provide an appropriate forum for research in air and ground medical transport. All posters will subsequently be published in the Air Medical Journal in 2023.

Earn That Swagger: Employing best (evidence-based) practices in difficult and failed airway management – This half-day intensive program in difficult and failed airway management was designed by senior faculty of The Difficult Airway Course: EMS for advanced providers at CCTMC. The program will start with a brief research and best practices update and then address complex airway cases. Most of the class is dedicated to advanced airway skills labs and simulation, where attendees will engage with the pediatric airway, airway management of patients with obesity, the surgical airway, the SALAD technique, delayed sequence intubation and ventilator set-up, and trouble-shooting concepts. This course is ideal for critical care providers who want to ensure they are employing best (evidence-based) practices. This event is a pre-conference workshop held prior to the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference.

Medical Director Core Curriculum II – This pre-conference event is designed to provide the second of a 3-part core curriculum process that is relevant to the success of physicians managing critical care air and ground transport teams. Topics are selected from Principles & Direction of Air Medical Transport, 2^nd Edition.

Air Medical Physician Symposium (AMPS) – Thispre-conference event is designed to promote networking and discussion among physicians regarding clinical and administrative topics that are applicable to their current practice.

The Pittman Flight & Critical Care Paramedic Review Course – This review course, developed by the late Corey Pittman, is designed to prepare students for the FP-C, CCP-C, CFRN and CTRN examinations and as a review for current FP-C/CCP-C/CFRN/CTRN certification holders. The course’s dynamic and engaging instructors have extensive critical care transport experience and currently hold one or more IBSC certifications.
