Textron Aviation unveils new Cessna Citations
The new Citation designs, due to launch in 2026 and 2027, will include Garmin’s new emergency autoland technology
Textron Aviation has unveiled the latest iteration of its Cessna Citation range of light jets. The new range includes three new iterations of the aircraft type – the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3; the M2 Gen3; and the CJ3 Gen3.
While the CJ4 Gen3 is expected to enter service from 2026, the latter two aircraft will launch the following year.
The three new designs were unveiled ahead of this year’s National Business Aviation Association Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE).
Most notably, the new aircraft designs include Garmin’s autothrottle and emergency autoland solutions. This system is capable of notifying air traffic control in the event of a pilot incapacitation, flying the plane to the nearest airport, and landing it while maintaining a stabilized approach.
“Adding the Garmin emergency autoland system to our entire Citation light jet family line-up represents a monumental leap in aviation technology,” said Ron Draper, President and CEO of Textron Aviation. “The system stands as a guardian against loss of control following pilot incapacitation, offering automated emergency communications and landing when needed and providing unparalleled peace of mind to pilots and passengers.”
Other upgrades include improved Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics, lithium-ion batteries, and flight deck lights and soundproofing for the CJ4 Gen3.
The Citation is a popular choice for operators of fixed-wing, long-distance air ambulance flights. US-based air ambulance operator Boston MedFlight acquired a new Citation CJ4 last year.
