Radar altimeter indicator installation in MD 902
The radar altimeter indicator is a critical component of any modern avionics system, providing pilots with accurate and reliable altitude information during approaches and landings. The installation was completed in compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices to ensure that the aircraft is now equipped with the latest avionics technology to improve safety and efficiency.
For design and certification, a Minor Change was carried out in coordination with the customer and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 21J design organization of SPAES. After completing the installation tests, the documentation was finalized, and the installation’s Minor Change was issued. The installation was performed at the customer’s own Part 145 maintenance organization.
Garmin 500H TXI system installation in BO 105
SPAES performed a modern cockpit conversion for an Airbus Bo 105 helicopter in collaboration with their customer. This transformation involved integrating a Garmin 500H TXi system and centralizing vital navigation and communication data. The conversion included removing existing analog devices to free up space and reduce weight. Two GDU 700 flight displays were installed for primary navigation, providing a clear view for the pilots. Optimizing the cockpit layout, a Garmin GTN 750 COM/NAV/GPS was integrated on the pilot’s side, and a GTN 650 on the co-pilot’s side. Additionally, a Garmin GTX 345R transponder with ADS-B out and a GRA 55 radar altimeter were installed and approved. The installation of other Garmin systems was approved via Minor Change in the Part 21J design organization of SPAES.
Glass cockpit upgrade in BO 105
SPAES, in partnership with PT Indonesia Defence Services, transformed an Airbus Bo 105 helicopter’s cockpit and replaced analog gauges with advanced Garmin systems. This upgrade improves situational awareness and broadens mission capabilities. Leveraging an existing supplemental type certificate, SPAES facilitated the integration of Garmin GTN 650/750, GTX 335R, GMA 350, GRA 55 RAD-ALT, GTS 800, GSR56H, and L3 ESI-500 systems. PT Indonesia Defence Services conducted the installations, with SPAES overseeing documentation preparation and remote supervision from Germany. On-site commissioning and troubleshooting were carried out in Jakarta, leading to successful certification and documentation delivery.
The way forward: embracing modernization
As we look to the future of aviation, one thing becomes abundantly clear: embracing modernization is not just a choice but a necessity. One of SPAES’ defining strengths lies in their expertise in navigating the intricate world of certification. Upgrading a cockpit is not just about installing new technology; it’s about ensuring that these modifications adhere to the highest standards set by aviation authorities. SPAES has consistently demonstrated their ability to not only implement cutting-edge technology but also expertly guide these modifications through the complex certification process.
