London’s Air Ambulance calls for support
London’s Air Ambulance is busier than ever before and relies on donations to deliver its lifesaving medical care
In addition to being funded by charitable donations, it is also supported by Barts Health NHS Trust, which provides doctors, some financial support and the helipad facilities at London Royal Hospital, and the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust, which provides paramedics and the emergency infrastructure to dispatch the service 24 hours a day.
In 2019, the charity completed 74 more missions than the year before, at a cost of £2,080 per mission. Data from 2019 has also shown an increase in the use of pioneering treatments. “We are committed to investing in R&D and collaborating with our partners to find new techniques and treatments that can create more survivors in the future,” said Medical Director Dr Tom Hurst.
The charity has called for support to fund the growing number of missions and continued lifesaving research. “Every day, London’s Air Ambulance is ready to deliver rapid response and cutting-edge medical care to people who are in urgent need, but we couldn’t do it without the support of the public,” said CEO Jonathan Jenkins. “Every second counts in an emergency – we hope the public will continue to help us get there in time to save a life by donating at www.londonsairambulance.org.uk.”
