FreeFlight’s RA-500 radar altimeter selected for use by airship company
LTA Research builds manned and remotely piloted airships for use as low-carbon cargo transport to remote areas
Aerospace research and development company Lighter Than Air (LTA) Research has selected FreeFlight Systems’s RA-6500 radar altimeter to equip its aircraft for a dual install solution, for use on its experimental and commercial cargo airships.
Radar altimeters are built to Design Assurance Level (DAL) B standard, and offer dual-install compatibility, an altitude measurement range of 762m with a 16764m service ceiling.
The RA-6500 was also designed specifically to coexist with C-band 5G mobile networks without any risk of interference and features Digital Signal Processing technology.
Anthony Rios, President of FreeFlight Systems, said: “It is exciting to see our 5G-tolerant radar altimetry solution extend beyond traditional rotorcraft and fixed-wing applications. We pride ourselves on providing innovative designs which are scalable and adaptable to new applications [and] look forward to supporting LTA Research’s advanced technology and missions.”
The RA-6500 is one of FreeFlight’s TERRAIN series of radar altimeters, which were launched in January 2021.
