First Airbus H125 Training Device established in Germany
Germany is the third country to receive a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) qualified Airbus H125 FTD Level 3 at Meravo Helicopters. Developed and built by VRM Switzerland, the virtual reality-based device is used for professional pilot training in a realistic environment, to improve flight safety
Meravo and VRM Switzerland cooperation
Once Meravo decided to invest in the concept, the execution was performed in close cooperation with VRM Switzerland’s own Flight Simulation Training Device Organization (FSTDO), with the entire qualification process being taken over by the FSTDO team. This offered the advantage that operators do not have to acquire the complex know-how to qualify and run a Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD) under EASA regulation.

Simulator Centre in the heart of Germany
Simulation training continues to be prevalent in the world of aviation, with the Training Device enabling H125 pilots to receive credits towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as well as licence and operator proficiency checks. “In contrast to the real helicopter, emergency procedures can be trained and executed realistically on the Airbus-approved device. This is without any risk, and in an optimal learning environment, proving to be more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly,” Riesen commented.
Training modules for pilot needs
The VR Training Device, with its 360° 3D panoramic view and highly dynamic motion system, enables execution of realistic training scenarios to improve pilot competencies. As customers from VRM Switzerland always benefit from the latest developments, Meravo also receives the latest implemented demonstration and upset recovery module. Training to prevent and recover from inadvertent instrumental meteorological conditions (IIMC) and a vortex ring state complete the lessons. “All aviation experts confirm the benefit of our pilot training solution to enhance flight safety,” Riesen concluded.
