ENVISION selected by FinnHEMS
State-owned emergency medical operator FinnHEMS has opted for Rusada’s ENVISION software to manage its airworthiness and maintenance activities
FinnHEMS operates Helicopter Emergency Medical Service flights for hospital districts from its seven bases across Finland. They utilize a fleet of nine helicopters, Airbus H135s and H145s, primarily for the deployment of emergency specialists to incidents, rather than the transportation of patients. As such, their callout rate is typically higher and more frequent than standard air ambulance services.
With this high volume of flights and need for constant aircraft availability, FinnHEMS was seeking a greater level of confidence in their operational data and determined that ENVISION met all the requirements for the job. AirMed&Rescue spoke to Rusada about why ENVISION was the right choice for FinnHEMS
ENVISION offers the right solution
A key reason we were selected by FinnHEMS is that we were able to provide a largely pre-configured system, coupled to data import functions that can be managed by their staff. This means that the cost of implementation is greatly reduced. It also means that FinnHEMS can be up and running quickly with a system fit for purpose and focussed on their needs. In addition, our close working relationship with Airbus Helicopters as a designated Maintenance Information Solution brings them further confidence. FinnHEMS need to maintain the availability of aircraft that are not always co-located in terms of machines and resources. ENVISION’s dashboard driven presentation of key data allows users to focus on matters directly relating to availability. FinnHEMS will also be secure in the knowledge that users in different departments can focus on their day knowing that they are acting upon the same information as their colleagues.
Software compatibility
ENVISION can manage any type of aircraft from a Piper to an A380, from a Koala to an NH90. The power of ENVISION means that mixed fleets are easy to manage. The software is scalable to meet the needs of operators from every spectrum of aviation, from VVIP to Cargo, HEMS to LCC, whether it’s a fleet of one or 1,000.
Customization options
While ENVISION can be customized in numerous ways for each client, we have found, particularly at the smaller operator level, that they don’t necessarily need the huge capability of all the modules of ENVISION, all the time. So, for operations like FinnHEMS, we devised a pre-configured, slimmed down version that doesn’t need to be customized. For organizations that follow the MPD/MSM OEM requirements without change, and have just a small warehousing requirement and a limited maintenance capability, we can provide a true commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution.
Many operators want to work within a recognisable framework, but of course they also have the ambition to grow their operations. This is the beauty of the COTS approach. Together we solve the immediate need driven by economic and operational factors, but if the business grows, a customer can take what they have and expand it without having to start again. Organisations choosing to upgrade their systems and processes want to do that as infrequently as possible.
Taking a fresh approach
The focus of ENVISION is to provide a framework and toolbox that an operator or maintainer can use to manage information that really hasn’t changed in terms of requirement in 20 years or more. We still have programs of inspections, we still fly from A to B, we still raise and fix defects, we still buy and fit parts. The key to making these processes reliable and efficient lies in visualisation and the interface between the user and the information, and it’s how you display this information and make it of use to the user that must be modern.
Rusada’s technological focus has been on harnessing the inherent power of the application and presenting it in a modern way, enabling easier and quicker decision making. Quicker and more accurate decisions lead to faster resolutions. Faster resolutions lead to greater efficiency, and by default, improved availability.
